There’s something about Ellen DeGeneres that makes her so likable – is it her humor, her hair, or her good heart? I am thinking it’s all of the above! When you see and listen to her, you just know that she has gained another fan, an additional to the millions she already has.
There are a lot of marketing tips which any business can learn from Ellen. Today, we give you five reasons why you, as a business owner, should stop what you’re doing, listen, and learn from The Ellen DeGeneres.
1. She’s down with the lingo.
Ellen DeGeneres knows the language of her audience and speaks it. In the photo above, she had made thousands of her followers laugh, just by using emoticons to try and convey a title of one of the most popular movies of the year!
In a business, communication is everything! It is most important to know who your target audience are, because when you do, it will be easier to compose eye-catching marketing materials like flyers, banners, and the like. You can also talk to them in a manner they will understand and avoid any miscommunication in the future!
2. She can rock any trend… even ‘selfies’.
In less than an hour, Ellen’s ‘selfie’ in Twitter has garnered over 1.7 retweets. As of press time, her tweet has 2.9 retweets and 1.5 favourites (and still counting!). Ellen also joked that she crashed Twitter because of her photo. Epic, yes?
No matter how absurd you think the new trend may be, it is important for businesses to try and join the fun whilst maintaining your brands voice. Not only will this show that you’re brand is enjoyable and can adapt to modern ways, it would also draw more followers, prospect clients and have a greater chance of creating something that goes viral.
3. She knows how to create a hype before any event.
If you’re like me who’s big on Social Media, this post from Ellen’s Instagram and other Social Networks must have made you look forward to Oscar, right? Other than the fancy dresses and suits which celebrities wear, Ellen has given her followers a new reason to be excited of the event.
Creating a hype for a big event – sale, new book, new website – is a great way to build anticipation in a well engaged loyal audience. This hype will also spark the curiosity of your followers and give you the opportunity to present your product / services to them.
4. She gives away awesome free things.
This $1000 is just one of the many things Ellen has randomly given her audience. These gifts have made the latter look forward to each of her shows even more!
Now I am not saying all businesses should give away $1000 to gain more customers or clients; what I am saying is that small gifts or tokens of appreciation given randomly to your followers are a great way to win their loyalty. It is also the best way to grow your audience and get your brand/products in front of new people.
5. She cares about the important stuff.
I guess what I love most about Ellen is that she’s not only a comedian – she is a remarkably funny woman with a big, big heart. Ellen cares about animal welfare and the hard-working change makers. She makes sure that she can help whenever possible and she does a pretty good job of it too.
Just like we do at MI Academy, Magida and I honour the importance of giving back to the ones whom need it most; it is important to give back; not only to look good to your clients and customers, but to genuinely touch others’ lives, as much as others have touched yours. We’re all in business for a higher purpose, make it loud and you’ll get the traction you need to fulfil whatever that is.
